Santa Cruz Shelter in Place 2020: Day 58
Yesterday was Day 58 of the Shelter in Place order here in Santa Cruz. And Danny and I will be celebrating our 14th wedding anniversary, by the time you see this, TODAY! But of course, yesterday I had to make sure that Danny remembered. He definitely did, he’s the best and I love him so much. And to celebrate, we drank the very last bottle from our wedding. It felt really nice to sit with him, drink that bottle of wine, and reminisce on our wedding day. Love is a really special thing.
Yesterday, Danny made some roasted vegetables on skewers and kebabs for dinner last night in our pizza oven in our backyard. And Danny let me make the herbed yogurt. Isn’t he nice? Our meal was very middle-eastern and also very delicious. Danny is such an amazing cook and it’s nice to have a partner who helps with the cooking and cleaning. I am very thankful for him.
And earlier in the day, I got to go on a celebratory social distancing walk with my prima, who is self isolating in our back house before she is able to go stay with my 101-year-old grandma. It was such a nice walk because it rained the night before and the air felt fresh and the plants looked super happy. And I loved getting to see the ocean and some animal chalk art. You literally never know what you are going to see on walks in Santa Cruz.
One of my favorite moments from yesterday was that I had the opportunity to interview Sheila Walsh-Dunton from Purple Beet Family, on Zoom. And she focuses on nutrition, family connection, as well as, education. She used to teach high school history at some local schools and now she does home school teaching, to moms here in Santa Cruz. Being able to interview her was a really awesome experience! Thank you, Sheila! You made me feel a little more normal and human, during this Shelter in Place, and I hope that your message resonates with many other moms and families in the community. I am excited to share my interview that I had with Sheila of Purple Beet Family, with you all next week. Stay tuned for that awesome interview.
While interviewing Sheila, it amazed me how quickly we were able to connect. And it is so mind blowing, that we are all in the same position during this time. I mean, even if we are not in an identical situation, we can just all connect with what we are going through right now. And so again, this community portion of what I am seeing and this community connection within all of us is just really heartwarming. Are you feeling supported by the community during this time? Are you now more proud to live where you do?
My friend, Blossom, told me that scripts for videos are not good because they make the video seem less real. So I have, for the most part, transitioned away from scripts. But for my market update videos, I do use a script because I actually study, prepare, and pull out valuable information that is pertinent to today’s market, both nationally and locally. So yesterday I worked on pulling real estate stats and reading articles in order to film my May Market Update video for you all. I love being able to go in my video room with my green screen. It’s probably my favorite room in my house, and I love being able to make these videos to keep my clients informed on what’s happening in the world of real estate. So also, stay tuned for that video!
I hope that you are all doing well and staying safe! Stay tuned for day 59 of the Shelter in Place order here in Santa Cruz!

Real Estate Update Time: We’ve seen quite a few new listings come on the market this week. We are about 2.7 months of absorption rate. Which means that it would take 2.7 months for all of the inventory that’s on the market right now, to sell. So, that’s still considered a seller’s market. But despite all that, my client who owns 4300 Soquel Drive #226 is wanting to sell now! And we’ve reduced that property to $379,000, which is a really good deal. It’s in Alimur Park, which is a resident owned park, and the home is absolutely stunning with high ceilings, and it’s light and bright. Check out the Queen Bee Home Tour video of this home, which was entirely my daughter’s idea.
If you are currently wondering what the Santa Cruz Housing Market is doing during the Coronavirus Pandemic, feel free to reach out to me. I’d be happy to answer any questions that you may have. But on March 28th, President Trump updated the essential business list and added Residential Real Estate. Meaning, that Realtors are allowed to continue working, while exercising extreme precautions, as mandated by the CDC.
With that being said, if you are currently looking to Buy a Santa Cruz Home, during the Shelter in Place, I would love to assist you in your Santa Cruz Home Search. There is not the usual amount of inventory as we normally see at this time, but mortgage rates are historically low. Now may be a great time to buy, as long as you’re willing to be patient for your dream home to come onto the market.
And if you are feeling a little bit overwhelmed by the process of home buying here in Santa Cruz, I am here to help! On May 17th from 12-2pm, I will be hosting a FREE Virtual Home Buyer’s Seminar. In this seminar you’ll hear from Ryan Buckholdt, a local loan officer, Leslie Alvarez, a local escrow officer and myself, about the ins and outs of home buying in Santa Cruz during the Shelter in Place and beyond. If you’d like to register for this free virtual home buyer’s seminar, click here. I hope to see you there!
If you are currently thinking about Selling Your Santa Cruz Home during this Shelter in Place, now may be a great time to put your home on the market. With inventory being low, the demand increases. Meaning, that some homes are seeing multiple offers and bid wars. I’d love to schedule a complimentary and confidential consultation with you to see how Fox Realty Group INC. can creatively market your home!
